A 'New World' Cabernet Blend sure to appeal to any Bordeaux lover!

Wantirna Estate Vineyard is unique in that it is located not far from the centre of Melbourne. It is also one of the few estates that is still run by the original owners - Reg and Bertina Egan, founded in 1963. Now run primarily by their daughter Maryann, the estate produces a small but premium range of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and classic Bordeaux blends that are elegant, classic and exceptional options for aging. Their early plantings included all sorts of weird varieties such as Crouchon, Pedro Ximenez, Barbera and Dolcetto, but it was the classical varieties that proved to be most successful and in the 1970’s the vineyard was consolidated to focus on the old faithful's: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Much of the existing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines were part of the original 1963 plantings, but are slowly being replanted as the vineyards age.
The Amelia Cabernet Merlot features a large portion of their old plantings and it is possible that proportions will differ every year, depending on fruit set and cropping levels. It's comprised of roughly two thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, one-third made up between Merlot & Cabernet Franc and a dash of Petit Verdot to round it out.

Tasting Note:
This wine is glorious with the classic Bordeaux perfume of violets, graphite and pencil shavings with notes of chocolate, mint, blackcurrant, cassis, mulberry, blueberry and boysenberry. Elegant and medium-bodied in style this is a concentrated and dense wine dense wine with silky tannins, juicy fruits and the full savoury spectrum of tobacco, shavings and graphite. Remarkably fresh and vibrant this wine is a real pleasure to drink!
As I said, glorious!

This is a Dry, Medium+ bodied wine with High acidity and Medium+ tannin. It is Medium+ in it's intensity with Medium alcohol and a Medium finish.
