The name 'Isole e Olena' came about in the 1950s when two adjoining estates, 'Isole' and 'Olena' (and their estates in the commune of Barberino Val d'Elsa) were purchased by the De Marchi family and combined to form one. Both estates have histories that dates back many hundreds of years, and the earliest documentation of the village of Olena goes as far back as the 12th century.

During the 1950s, the De Marchi family planted specialised vineyards and expanded the cellars. It was De Marchi who, at a time when Chianti was actually a blended wine, made the choice to produce wines that were 100% Sangiovese. The wine now known as Cepparello IGT is the true embodiment of the word Super Tuscan and which has gone on to become an iconic wine and a benchmark for the region. The estate is now run by Paolo De Marchi and his wife Marta and his older son, Luca, runs the family estate in Piedmonte: Proprietà Sperino. The estate also produces stunning Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chianti Classico.

Tasting Note:
Cepparello is a Super Tuscan comprising 100% Sangiovese, aged in French oak barrels and the flagship wine of the estate. Bright ruby red in colour, Cepparello has aromas of ripe red fruit and dark cherries on the nose along with a touch of spice from the decisive use of oak. The palate is full and rich with ripe red and black cherries, redcurrants and hints of darker fruits, spice and dark chocolate, all balanced with pristine acidity and fine grained tannin. It shows all the well balanced structure of a great Cepparello, as well as elegant, soft tannins and a persistently long finish.
Still very youthful, this another excellent Cepparello which will continue to develop more complexity as it ages.

This is a Dry, Medium+ bodied wine with High acidity and Medium+ tannin. It is Medium in it's intensity with High alcohol and a Long finish.
