Located in Ampuis, the Ogier family are well established and have been growing and selling grapes in the Northern Rhone for many years, (mostly to Guigal & Chapoutier) before Michel Ogier started vinifying their own grapes in 1987. Stéphane joined the family estate in 1997, working alongside his father Michel, before taking over in 2005. Since then has established himself as one of the great names in Rhone and in particular around his single site Syrah's in his home commune of Cote Rôtie.

Stéphane studied in Beaune, and he brings this Burgundian approach to his wines of the region and it's terriors. He works with multiple lieux-dits, both in and out of the appellation, vinifying each separately and using oak sparingly to allow the nuances of each style to show. He is widely heralded as the face of the Northern Rhône’s new generation, and continues to go from strength to strength!

A Baby Cote Rôtie At A Fraction Of The Price

La Rosine Syrah- a perennial favourite. The fruit comes from a plot just outside of the southern limit of Cote Rotie, so it really is a Cote Rotie in all aspects but the name. While the wine comes under the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes appellation the site sits just part way around the bend from La Turque and shares a similar aspect and soil as the famed site. It may be a humble Vin de Pays but it stands as true testament to Stéphane’s skill

Tasting Note:
A bit fatter than the 2018, but still the La Rosine Syrah focuses on those familiar characteristics of liquorice, tapenade, cola, violets, grilled meaty/savoury characters and dark fruits of blackberries, cherries and cracked black pepper. The wine is medium to full-bodied, showing excellent ripeness on the palate as a result of the vintage, and sensual silky tannins with a mouth watering finish. Lush, elegant, and remarkably good value, this never fails to impress.

This is a Dry, Medium bodied wine with Medium+ acidity and Medium tannin. It is Medium+ in it's intensity with High alcohol and a Medium+ finish.
