La Spinetta (meaning “top of the hill” ) was founded in 1977 and now spans 165 hectares between the regions of Piedmont and Tuscany. Instead of inheriting their land through generations of winemakers, the Rivettis have carefully and painstakingly selected their vineyards over time. All sites have a south, south-east or south-west exposure and the vines tend to show a good bit of age from 35-65 years. The approach in the winery may be modern but the vineyard ethos is utterly traditional: extensive year round care, extremely low yields and no use of chemical fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides. 
Timorasso is an ancient variety that nearly disappeared. Nowadays there are a handful of producers making wines with it and are now calling it Italy's answer to Chardonnay from Chablis, or Gruner from Austria due to its racy mineral notes. It's a variety is prized for its rigid acidic backbone, its aromatic lift, and its ability to transmit it's environment. For lovers of wines that are racy, minerally and textured, here’s a new-generation Italian white grape to make your heart race!

Tasting Note:
The 2021 Timorasso from La Spinetta is one of the more restrained versions of this variety since its release in 2019. There's plenty of texture here from 7 months on less, and characters of orchard fruit, pear, lemon peel, lime juice, sage and chamomile all weave nicely together. Timorasso can be a bit rustic from time to time, but this style seems to have been well tamed. Mineral, zesty and pretty floral notes round out the long, clean finish, making this one to savour on a warm day.
