Found just north of the town of Margaux and opposite Chateau Lascombes is Chateau Labegorce, instantly recognisable by it's iconic chateau that was constructed way back in 1821. The family were originally merchants, gradually climbing the social ladder in Bordeaux, assuming a more aristocratic standing in the community as they did so. The Chateau passed through a myriad of owners before it was most recently purchased by Hubert Perrodo in 1989 and now managed by his daughter Nathalie.

Their 'Grand Vin' is typically made up of at least 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by slightly less Merlot and a small balance of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It produces wines that are often favourably compared to its neighbouring classified Margaux Growths, but available for considerably less. The 2009 Labegorce comes from a property that now includes the former estate Labegorce-Zede, which has been absorbed into the estate and they have done a fantastic job with this vintage.

Tasting Note:

Even after 10+ Years this wine still holds onto it's dense ruby/purple colour with a wonderful pronounced intensity. This is a rich wine, but needs time to open up and evolve so will benefit from a decant.
Brilliant evolution with notes of graphite, cedar, tobacco, earth, undergrowth, and mushroom dominate, but still manages to hang onto youthful characters of spring flowers, blueberry, blackberry, bramble and cassis. This is a wine with loads of character and depth.

This is a Dry, Medium bodied wine with Medium+ acidity and Medium tannin. It is Pronounced in it's intensity with High alcohol and a Long finish.
