The Germano family has owned 6ha of land on the hill of Cerretta, near Serralunga d’Alba since 1856. Great-grandfather Francesco and grandfather Alberto cultivated vines producing a little wine but selling most of the grapes, as was the custom at the time. Ettore, the son of Alberto, continued his father’s work, but become skilled at grafting, and in the 1950s started to replant the vineyards. He used vines that he himself propagated using ‘massal selection,’ with a vine density of at least four thousand vines per hectare, of the typical varieties: Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. In 1964 Ettore married Rosanna, and they continued to work the vineyards, buying additional neighbouring parcels of land.

Sergio’s Barolos are clearly “modern” wines that haven’t lost their soul, or “typicity. In Serralunga, one of the Barolo villages with a higher percentage of sandstone in the clay/marl soils and a more westerly aspect to the vineyards, wines are known for having more power and tannic grip. Sergio’s Barolo clearly reflects its place of origin in terms of structure, but those tannins are refined, not rough.

Tasting Note:
A classic expression of Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba hand harvested from 25 year-old parcels in all three of Germano’s Serralunga Crus: Prapò, Cerretta, and Lazzarito. Showing the power and structure of the commune, whilst managing to balance fruit weight and drinkability. Bright and full bodied with notes of wild berry, iron, smoke, dried black cherry, cranberry, star anise, liquorice, herbs and a host of savoury notes.
A fascinating, powerful Barolo.

This is a Dry, Full bodied wine with High acidity and High tannin. It is Pronounced in it's intensity with High alcohol and a Long finish.
