Château Barrail du Blanc produces wines that are exceptional for their depth and consistency. Owned by the same family for over 150 years, this property is located in the commune of Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens, in the south of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. Historically, the Elliès family have always owned the estate but would sell their grapes to other estates, but in 1995 they made the change and decided to make and bottle their own wine. Considerable investment was necessary and new thermo-regulated tanks were installed, as well as a maturation cellar – all with the aim to improve wine quality.
The vines, (averaging age of 25 years), are planted on rather light, well-drained soils with up to circa 80% pure gravel, the rest a mix of gravel and clay that allows for good drainage, well-suited to Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The grapes are treated with attentive care by Monsieur Elliès and his daughter, Nathalie, in both the vineyard and in the cellar. Ploughing, green harvesting, and leaf cropping are favored in order to ensure a consistent maturity of the fruit.
