The name 'Isole e Olena' came about in the 1950s when two adjoining estates, 'Isole' and 'Olena' (and their estates in the commune of Barberino Val d'Elsa) were purchased by the De Marchi family and combined to form one. Both estates have histories that dates back many hundreds of years, and the earliest documentation of the village of Olena goes as far back as the 12th century. 
During the 1950s, the De Marchi family planted specialised vineyards and expanded the cellars. The estate is now run by Paolo De Marchi and his wife Marta and his older son, Luca, runs the family estate in Piedmonte: Proprietà Sperino. The estate also produces stunning Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and their flagship wine, Cepparello.

Besides Sangiovese and a healthy dose of Canaiolo, Paolo blends in a dash of Syrah to this wine to give a bit of backbone, as he believes it to be less invasive than other international varieties such as Cabernet and Merlot. 

Tasting Note:
A blend of 82% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 3% Syrah with maturation taking place in large oak barrels for 12 months. This Chianti Classico is crimson in colour with typical sour cherry, rustic red earth, bay leaf and bramble characters. The palate is full of fragrantly expressive, with enticing notes of dried herbs, rose, fennel, clove and fresh forest floor. The use of oak adds character but doesn't overwhelm, so the structure comes from the taut acidity and tannin. Wonderfully medium in weight, this wine has a lot packed in, and will carry the wine through midterm aging.

This is a Dry, Medium+ bodied wine with High acidity and Medium+ tannin. It is Medium in it's intensity with High alcohol and a Medium finish.
