La Tunella is based in the Colli Orientali del Friuli and has come a long way since farmer Min Zorzettig founded the estate between the first and second world wars. After a large re-vamp in the early nineties, old vineyards were replanted, new land acquired, new varieties introduced and production was intentionally cut, with harvest now taking place almost entirely by hand. Grown on high sun-trap terraces in the eastern Friuli hills, the hand-tended vines produce only the tiniest quantity of grapes. The soils here are unique to the area combining a mix of marl and sandstone called Ponca, and are believed to be the key to the expressive yet delicate flavours and textural purity of La Tunella’s wines.

Refosco is an ancient family of dark skinned Italian grape varieties native to Northern Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. It is believed to have been enjoyed since Roman times. The most renowned sub variety is Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso from Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Tasting Note:
The La Tunella Refosco is broad, rich, and intense, anchored by fruit and spice notes, wild blackberry, raspberry, cocoa, and tobacco. A full, dry body with substantial structure and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

This is a Dry, Full bodied wine with Medium+ acidity and Medium tannin. It is Medium+ in it's intensity with Medium alcohol and a Medium+ finish.
