One of the great wine families of Piemonte, the wines are prized in the best cellars and restaurants in the world.

The Massolino family's history as winegrowers in Serralunga stretches back more than a century. Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino, the family's heritage is richly intertwined with that of the whole region. They now farm 23 hectares across prime real estate in the Serralunga sub-region, with premium holdings on the famed slopes of Margheria, Parafada and the legendary vineyard Vigna Rionda. These are wines that, while classic, have continued to evolve over each generation in pursuit of the purest expression of the beloved Nebbiolo grape.

This wine just gets better and better. Early vintages of the Nebbiolo were sourced exclusively from Massolino's younger vines in Serralunga making this essentially a declassified Barolo. Today there are two more parcels in play: Monforte's Cascina I Maschi vineyard lies at altitude right on the border of the Barolo area where the soils are rich in chalk (Massolino credits this cool site with the resultant vibrant perfume and ripe acidity); then there's a parcel in Alba on lighter, sandy clay soils, which brings power and fruit concentration. The blend is roughly one-third from each, and there's little doubt this is an outstanding Langhe Nebbiolo.

Tasting Note: (From the importer)
The blend is roughly one-third from each terroir, and there’s little doubt the sum of these three sites has bought even more finesse and early-drinking appeal to what was already an outstanding Langhe Nebbiolo. The 2021 is a gorgeous wine. Ripe yet pure-fruited (mulberry, red cherry, anise) with fine, chalky tannins and a terrific, perfumed finish. Following very gentle extraction, it was aged in large Slavonian oak casks (like all Massolino Nebbiolo) for 15 months.

This is a Dry, Medium bodied wine with High acidity and Medium+ tannin. It is Medium in it's intensity with High alcohol and a Medium finish.
