Boekenhoutskloof was established in furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley in 1776. The farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed) and the Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. Hence the chairs on the label. In 1993 the farm and homestead were bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier.

Their Cabernet Sauvignon from the Helderberg area shows a real ‘minerality’ and a classic graphite-like profile derived from the unique combination of soil type, high altitude slopes with its specific aspect and the mild maritime influences from the cool False Bay coast.

The warm, dry growing conditions restricted yields, but offered exceptionally small berries with wonderful concentration and fruit flavour. Additional hang time brought a slight reduction of the pyrazines typical of Helderberg and contributed to beautiful black fruit characteristics.

Tasting Note:
The nose shows aromas of black currant, dark cherry, graphite and exotic spice. There is a focused, smooth and subtle palate showing flavours of blackberry, perfumed black tea, oregano and hints of cedar and fine-grained and supple tannins.

This is a Dry, Full bodied wine with High acidity and High tannin. It is Pronounced in it's intensity with Medium alcohol and a Long finish.
