One of the pioneers of the region, Clive Paton was one of the first to plant grapes on the Martinborough Terrace in 1980 and the winery has since gone on to become a legend of the New Zealand wine industry. Home of the Gumboot clone of Pinot Noir, a cutting from the vineyards of Domaine de la Romanée Conti allegedly smuggled back into the country by an enterprising Kiwi in a pair of gumboots. In 2010 Ata Rangi was honoured with the Tipuranga Teitei o Aotearoa award, New Zealand's equivalent of Grand Cru status and wine-maker Helen Masters consistently produces some of the countries' finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

20 years ago Ata Rangi named this special Pinot Noir “Crimson” in support of Project Crimson, the charitable trust working to replant and preserve native red-flowering pōhutukawa and rātā trees throughout New Zealand. Today they continue to support conservation efforts across the region and Crimson Pinot Noir celebrates all their commitment to remain in service to the land and ecosystem that sustains them all.

Tasting Note:
This Crimson has a fragrant nose of dried roses and hay. Fresh thyme and rosemary with spice notes of black cardamon, cinnamon and warm cedar. The palate is wonderfully open and calm, with red fruits gliding through to the finish. This wine is engaging and alluring now and will age gracefully.
*Note - Bottle Labels May Change Between Wines*
