Sandhi is a small production Californian winery focusing on very select vineyards from the Santa Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County. Famed Sommelier Raj Parr and renowned winemaker Sashi Moorman founded Sandhi wines back in 2010 with a pure focus on crafting world-class, Burgundian inspired wines from top vineyards in the region. The partnership of Raj and Sashi is continuously aimed at championing the production of wine with the collaboration between man, earth, and vine and the style of these wines is guided entirely by efforts to capture the sense of place and the individuality of each season.

This library 2013 bottling comes from the Grand Cru vineyard of the region, Sanford & Benedict. It is also notably from the highly sought after original, own-rooted plantings of Pinot Noir from 1971. The vines were grown from cuttings of Mount Eden selection thought to have been brought from Louis Jadot in Burgundy.

Tasting Note:

The 2013 captures the essence of this high quality vineyard. It's still a powerful wine despite its long cellaring in the bottle. It's pure and beautifully balanced with concentrated layers of blue and red berries, warming spices, sandalwood, bramble and tertiary forest floor and mushroom notes with plenty of earthiness.
Sashi loves to use lots of whole clusters to give a wine with lovely high-toned aromatics and a fine persistent structure. The intensity you get from this wine is not from over ripeness, or over oaking, it's from these old vines! Low yields and a deft winemaking touch produce a wine of place, sensuality and silky supple tannins, with an incredibly long finish.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict captures the personality of this site in its entirety. This is brilliant.

This is a Dry, Medium bodied wine with High acidity and Medium tannin. It is Medium+ in it's intensity with Medium alcohol and a Long finish.
