Bodegas Áster is the famous La Rioja Alta's (based in Haro, Rioja) Ribera del Duero outpost. Originally founded in 1989, LRA is one of the most innovative wineries in Spain and in 1991, they branched south into the barren plateau of Ribera del Duero. After intensive analysis, they settled on a plot in Anguix near Burgos which is an area that Tim Atkin MW describes as the home of “most of the best wines” in Ribera del Duero thanks to its extreme environment of short, hot summers, low rainfall, and bitterly cold winters.

This Estate features vineyards at 700-800m above sea level, a state-of-the-art winery completed in 2000, and a solar farm to provide sustainable energy for the winery. with state-of-the-art facilities that produce world-class wines at a fraction of the price of its famous neighbours such as Pago de Los Capellanes, Pingus, and even Vega Sicilia. 

For the first time in Australia and we only managed to get 6 bottles, this is a wine not to be missed. 

This is a stunning wine consisting of 100% Tintas del Pais (Tempranillo). The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation for 62 days after which only the best wine is chosen to be further aged in new French oak before bottling. It offers great levels of sweet, ripe fruits combined with well-balanced oak and tannic structure.
