Richard Kershaw was a successful chef in the UK before working as a cellar-hand in California, Chile, France, Germany and Hungary. He relocated to South Africa in 1999 and is currently one of only ten Masters of Wine who actively produce their own wine. Focusing on cool climate, site-specific, clonally-selected wines, Richard hit the ground running in Elgin valley, immediately gaining a reputation as one of South Africa’s finest Chardonnay producers and most knowledgeable winemakers.

His Clonal Selection Chardonnay comes from nine small parcels of Chardonnay vines grown from 5 Burgundian clones. The wines were fermented with natural yeasts in barriques and some 500L oak casks about 40% new. The malolactic fermentation was stopped to keep the freshness and the wines was further aged for 11 months.

Tasting Note:
This is a beautifully balanced, restrained and mineral style of Chardonnay which has the classic buttery brioche notes and perfectly integrated oak with balancing acidity. With a focus on elegance, even though you can drink this now, it will reward if you keep it well over the next 5+ years.

This is a Dry, Medium+ bodied wine with High acidity and No tannin. It is Medium+ in it's intensity with Medium alcohol and a Medium+ finish.
