The name 'Isole e Olena' came about in the 1950s when two adjoining estates, 'Isole' and 'Olena' (and their estates in the commune of Barberino Val d'Elsa) were purchased by the De Marchi family and combined to form one. Both estates have histories that dates back many hundreds of years, and the earliest documentation of the village of Olena goes as far back as the 12th century. 
During the 1950s, the De Marchi family planted specialised vineyards and expanded the cellars. The estate is now run by Paolo De Marchi and his wife Marta and his older son, Luca, runs the family estate in Piedmonte: Proprietà Sperino. The estate also produces stunning Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and their flagship wine, Cepparello.

Besides Sangiovese and a healthy dose of Canaiolo, Paolo blends in a dash of Syrah to this wine to give a bit of backbone, as he believes it to be less invasive than other international varieties such as Cabernet and Merlot. 

Tasting Note:
A blend of 82% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 3% Syrah (similar to the 2018) with maturation taking place in large oak barrels for 12 months. 
This Chianti Classico comes from a generous crop of excellent quality and seems to be one of the better Chianti's of the vintage. Again, the bright red fruit sour cherry, rustic earthiness and bay leaf shine through with a fresh and vibrant palate full of energy. Wonderfully expressive with classic structure and purity of the region and plenty of dried spices, herbs, cloves, bright red fruit and earthy forest floor to round it off on the palate. This is a wine that gives Paolo a lot of pleasure - consistent as always.

This is a Dry, Medium+ bodied wine with High acidity and High tannin. It is Medium+ in it's intensity with High alcohol and a Medium+ finish.
