What began as a cool little project ran by Thierry Germain of the famous Roches Neuves has now been handed over to the brother: Phillipe Germain. Lauded as spokesperson for his small pocket in the Loire Valley, these wines of (former owner) Thierry Germain have turned a wonderful spotlight onto the underrated region of Saumur-Champigny.
This here is a producer with a commitment to biodynamic farming and the Midas touch in the cellar, Thierry has effectively elevated the status of this region through consistently releasing sublime Cabernet Francs and elegant, finessed Chenin Blancs which are magnetic in their energy and charisma.
Tasting Note:
This Chenin value comes from 100% hand-harvested fruit, organically grown in Rochefort-sur-Loire, just south of the river opposite Savennières. The wine was vinified in two to four-year-old 400-litre casks. Picking up where last year's wine left off, the new vintage is super racy, tangy and bright, with plenty of apple, lemon pith and honey fruit, a mouth-watering spine of shimmering acidity and a driven, salty close.
This is a Dry, Medium bodied wine with High acidity and No tannin. It is Medium in it's intensity with Medium alcohol and a Medium finish.
